What is the difference between a marketing agency and an advertising agency?

A marketing agency will handle all dimensions of the famous 4-P (Product, Price, Place and Promotion). It ranges from product conception and description, to establishing a pricing strategy to selecting locations, to selecting the optimal promotional strategy.  Marketing includes all aspect involved in generating and keeping clients.

In contrast, an advertising agency will focus on all aspects involved in creating a proper advertising campaign (Message, composition, media, media buy, frequency, call to action, branding, etc...). Advertising is part of the promotional activities that one undertakes to generate more business.
